Simulation Project Title A simplistic model of perceived speed.
Type of model Systems model
Description A simplistic model of perceived speed (labeled lines model, vector average model) will receive stimulus speed and stimulus contrast as input, simulate the activity of a neuronal population and compute a perceived speed of the stimulus as the outcome.
Why complementary I have collected electrophysiological data from the speed tuned neurons in monkeys, and these data match the psychophysical results I have collected with humans, given that perceived speed is coded in labeled lines or as the vector average of neuronal populations. It would be interesting to test such a model that is based on the neuronal behavior and compare its outcome with psychophysical findings. I would also like to try out a probabilistic model (maximum likelihood model, Bayesian model).
