Simulation Project Title A neural network model for spatial sequences representation.
Type of model Abstract neural network model
Description An open problem is to understand how the brain represents sequence information. I would like to address this problem through the neural network approach; I would like to see if is it possible to create a recurrent attractor network that code for a spatial sequence:a network able to code simultaneously for both locations in space and its temporal order in a sequence. The network could present stables attractors for locations and retrieve the information about order from an other mechanism.
Why complementary My PhD project involves the study of the spatial representation of the brain; in particular it focus on a model for the formation of grid cell activity in mEC. This project I propose would be useful for the improvement of my PhD project because it could give me a larger knowledge on how spatial information can coexist in a network with other kind of information. Moreover it can improve my ability and experience on different kind of networks, and that would be useful for my future work.
