Simulation Project Title Comparative study of statistical measures in neuron networks.
Type of model Systems model
Description I would like to use tools from information theory to measure activity propagation in networks of neurons, and compare these tools to classic measures such as correlations. I will use known IF network models exhibiting different activity states (irregular or oscillating), submit these networks to external inputs, and measure activity propagation using different methods. The approach may be generalized to characterize the statistical properties of these activity states (using MATLAB and NEST).
Why complementary My PhD project is about applying concepts of fluid dynamics (turbulent phenomena) to analyze and model voltage-sensitive dye optical imaging data. I would like to use information theoretic techniques, and use of numerical tools such as MATLAB. The course has experts for both, applied in the context of neural modeling. The proposed course project on comparing different methods will be invaluable for me to learn these tools and later apply them to my PhD project.
