Simulation Project Title A model of auditory processing using short-term & long-term synaptic mechanisms.
Type of model Don't know yet
Description In this project, we will incorporate short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity mechanisms into a network of synapses and neurons, in order to investigate how these mechanisms could contribute to the early stages of auditory signal processing at the primary auditory cortex. The role of the ensemble of these two mechanisms in contradictory sluggishness/accuracy properties of the auditory cortex, and the way they interact which each other to make this contribution, should be investigated.
Why complementary In a previous study in the field of auditory signal processing (Modeling the primary auditory cortex using dynamic synapses: can, to be published in J Theor Biol) I used the dynamic synapse model and I utilized genetic algorithm to regulate its parameters. It may be possible somehow - to regulate these parameters using long-term plasticity mechanisms instead of GA. This approach was successful in modeling wind-up (my other study).
