Simulation Project Title A minimal ANN capable of learning trace conditioning.
Type of model Abstract neural network model
Description Trace conditioning requires the subject to use a tone stimulus (the CS) to correctly time an eyeblink in order to avoid a noxious airpuff (the UCS) that occurs following a temporal delay. This task is extremely valuable for theoretical study because it enables direct cross-species comparisons. This task is a hippocampal dependent learning paradigm. This projects aim to reproduce the empirically observed learnable trace conditioning, and time course of learning.
Why complementary The main project of my postdoc aims to study learning in the form of trace conditioned learning in human subjects in different states of consciousness. A computational model of this learning would be a very valuable tool to compare with experiments and understand the dynamics of learning.
