Dear member of our Neuro-Informatics contacts,
As this touches upon two fields you are interested in, Neuro-Informatics and
Bio-Informatics, I take the liberty to inform you about the working
conference on:
Synergy between Research in Medical Informatics, Bio-Informatics and
Neuro-Informatics. "Knowledge empowering Individualised Healthcare and
Well-Being"
The conference will be held on December 14, 2001 in the Pyramids at Place
Rogier, Brussels. It is co-organised by the Belgian Presidency of the
European Union, the Federal Belgian Ministries of Social Affairs and Public
Health and the European Commission (Directorates Generals INFSO and RTD).
Objectives of the Conference
----------------------------------
1. To design synergetic R&D activities for the next decade in the
domains of Medical Informatics, Bio-Informatics and Neuro-Informatics.
2. To initiate work on a strategic document (White Paper) for the
Commission Services, the Institutions of the Member States and the
International Organizations concerned.
3. To devise a strategy for building both knowledge and tools
supporting individualised health in Europe by implementing co-operation
among these domains.
Scope of the Conference
---------------------------
Medical Informatics, Bio-Informatics and Neuro-Informatics are three
separate domains that have been developing fast and in various directions.
This is illustrated in the ongoing efforts to better define their boundaries
and intersections.
Both to realise their full potential and to achieve better integration of
Health Knowledge it is crucial for them to interact conceptually as well as
practically. In this process, Information and Communication Technologies
(ICT) act as indispensable catalysts.
Who should attend ?
-------------------
The plenary session is open to researchers, decision makers and industrial
stakeholders, as well as to other interested individuals.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is compulsory and on a
'first come, first served' basis.
The afternoon session is confined to experts who will contribute to the
debate that will focus mainly on the intersections between the domains under
discussion. Participation will be confirmed on the basis of the applicants'
profiles and preferences (see registration form).
Some of these experts will be invited to refine and extend the conclusions
of the conference through a follow-up project (White Paper).
The updated programme is accessible via the web at www.ramit.be. .
I have enclosed a partial copy of the leaflet describing visually the
conference objectives and a copy of the registration form. Registration can
also be done electronically at the web site www.ramit.be. Participation is
free of charge, but registration is compulsory and on a 'first come, first
served' basis.
