       CALL FOR WORKSHOP AND TUTORIAL PROPOSALS

         SEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
           SIMULATION OF ADAPTIVE BEHAVIOR
                      SAB'02
               FROM ANIMALS TO ANIMATS

====================================================
Workshops: August 10th and 11th 2002
Conference: August 4th-9th 2002

University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
====================================================

SAB'02 is taking place in Edinburgh in August 2002. As at previous
SABs we are planning to hold a series of workshops and tutorials after
the main conference. We invite proposals for half- and one-day
workshops and tutorials on topics of interest to attendees at the SAB
conference.

The SAB conferences aim to draw together researchers in robotics,
ethology, alife, computer science, neurosciences, artificial
intelligence, control and related fields. Their focus is on
understanding the behaviours and underlying mechanisms that allow
natural and artificial animals to survive in uncertain
environments. Conference topics include, but are not limited to,

* The Animat approach
* Philosophical and psychological issues
* Characterisation of agents and environments
* Passive and active perception
* Motor control
* Visually guided behaviours
* Action selection
* Behavioural sequencing
* Navigation and mapping
* Internal models and representation
* Learning and development
* Motivation and emotion
* Emergent structures and behaviours
* Collective and social behaviour
* Neural correlates of behaviour
* Evolutionary and co-evolutionary approaches
* Autonomous robots
* Software agents and virtual creatures
* Applied adaptive behaviour
* Animats in education

WORKSHOPS AND TUTORIALS

These will be open to SAB attendees at a small extra fee to cover
costs of room hire, refreshments, proceedings, etc. Workshop/tutorial
organisers will provide camera-ready copy of material appropriate to
their workshop (short papers, workshop description, timetable, etc.)
to the SAB Workshop Chair in time for this to be included in printed
pre-proceedings. This is independent of any other publications
organisers may like to arrange for or after their workshops/tutorials.
