Postdoctoral Position in Neurophysiology, Bern SWITZERLAND

A postdoctoral position in Neurophysiology is immediately available at the
Department of Physiology, University of Bern, Switzerland. The candidate is
expected to actively participate in a joint research project investigating the
cellular mechanisms underlying memory. We are an interdisciplinary research
group of experimentalists (H.-R. Lüscher) and theoreticians (W. Senn, S. Fusi)
supported by the Department of Physiology, the Department of Mathematics, and
the Swiss National Science Foundation. Our research focuses on synaptic
plasticity and single neuron properties which are relevant for population
coding. In the present subproject we envisage an experimental verification of
single neuron models, including integrate-and-fire and spike-response models
(together with W. Gerstner). The applicant will perform in vitro experiments
with state-of-the art electrophysiological techniques using patch clamp
recordings from different cortical neurons of the rat. The position is for 2
years with a possible extension to a 3rd and 4th year, and includes a teaching
obligation in Physiology for medical students. The salary is CHF 75'000 to
80'000 p.a. depending on experience (~EUR 51'000-54'000). The ideal candidate
has a PhD or MD PhD, experience in electrophysiology, and a strong interest in
computational neuroscience. For application please send a CV and addresses of at
least two references to:
