Postdoctoral Opportunities
In Vitro Computation by Neuronal Networks on Multielectrode Arrays

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (Springfield IL)

Two postdoctoral opportunities are available on a new NSF funded project to
understand how micropatterned neuronal networks process information. The
principal input / output devices will be planar microelectrode arrays
(MEA's). Stages in the work include improving substantial progress toward
the repeatable, reliable growth of neurons in small, designed networks;
characterizing both spontaneous and stimulated action potential activity;
investigating how neurons encode more complex logical functions and how
they learn new patterns of activity. We are looking for individuals with
experience and interest in related neuroscience areas; bioengineering skill
sets are a plus. One position will be at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign's Beckman Institute and the other will be at Southern
Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. There will be
continual collaboration among all investigators at both sites. For more
