2 Postdoctoral / PhD positions in "touch and vision"
====================================================
The positions are immediately open for psychophysical or computational
work exploring the human haptic system and its interaction with the
visual system. This is a joint project of the Max-Planck-Institute for
Biological Cybernetics with several other European partners in the
areas of Psychology, Computer Sciences, and Engineering.
The project will explore the interplay of visual and haptic
information-processing in humans using a variety of techniques,
including high-fidelity virtual environments, fMRI, and a grasp lab
with two robot arms (Phantoms) which allows the manipulation and
grasping of virtual objects. The project will use highly sophisticated
haptic interfaces and targets at building new, high-fidelity
visuo-haptic devices.
Expertise in any of the above techniques would be an advantage. The
successful candidates should have a background in Biology, Physics,
Psychology, or Computer Sciences. Preference will be given to
candidates which have conducted psychophysical work.
The successful candidates will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary
group of scientists performing cutting-edge research on human vision,
computer vision, and Human-Computer Interaction. Further information
about the research environment can be found at our website
(http://www.kyb.tuebingen.mpg.de). Informal inquiries can be sent to
Dr. Volker Franz (volker.franz@tuebingen.mpg.de) and Dr. Marc Ernst
(marc.ernst@tuebingen.mpg.de).
The positions are initially funded for 36 month. For a PostDoc the
salary will be at the level of BATIIa (appr. 38.000 EURO per year;
after tax: appr. 20.000 EURO), for a PhD candidate, it will be at the
level of BATIIa/2 (appr. 19.000 EURO per year; after tax: appr. 14.000
EURO).
To apply, send curriculum vitae, representative publications, and
three letters of recommendation to:
