This year, the School will place a special emphasis in exploring the
implications of neuroengineering for neurological rehabilitation.
The School will feature lectures, held by renowned experts of the field
(organized into thematic sessions), on both theoretical and technical
aspects; lab activities,
and student presentations (one dedicated session per day).
The topics covered will include:
1) Neural code and neural plasticity
Coding and decoding of information in neural systems
Neurophysiological basis of learning and memory
Computational paradigms for perception and action
Capabilities of natural neurobiological systems as computational devices
2) Neural interfaces and bio-artificial systems
EEG, trans-cranial magnetic stimulation, multi-site recordings
Intra-cranial, EEG-based and peripheral brain-computer interfaces
Neural prostheses
Hybrid silicon/biological systems
3) Neuroengineering and rehabilitation
Haptic devices in neurological rehabilitation
Virtual reality and multimedia for rehabilitation
Functional electrical stimulation and biofeedback
4) Neuroengineering of mind
Using robots to understand development of higher functions
Neural models of higher functions
Large scale brain models
