PhD in Neural Engineering
Technical University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain
Center for Research in Biomedical Engineering
 (CREBEC)

Neural engineering is an emerging discipline that combines engineering, neurobiology, physics, chemistry and mathematics with the goal of developing and using novel technologies to monitor and control electrical activity in the brain. The Technical University of Catalonia, participating in the Center for Research in Biomedical Engineering, has identified neural engineering as an strategic field and is seeking to expand research efforts in the area. To this end, we are accepting applications from candidates to enroll in a PhD degree in neuroengineering.

About the Technical University of Barcelona
The Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), with over 2600 researchers and 28000 students, carries out research and training in a wide range of field, including interdisciplinary areas such as neural engineering and biomedical engineering in general. Resources available include clean room facilities for microdevice fabrication, biomedical infrastructure for cell culture, microscopy (electron, confocal and standard optical), general instrumentation for device characterization, electrophysiology electronics and others. Research activities are carried out in the main University campus and at the Barcelona Science Park, both located in the University Area of Barcelona.
The University receives funding from public sources, either National, Local and European as well as from industry through Technology Transfer Activities.

Candidates and Research Subjects
We are seeking engineers, physicists and biologists to pursue research towards a PhD degree focused on various aspects of Neural Engineering.

Projects include:
Technology related
Microfabrication of microdevices for interfacing with in vitro neurons
Multichannel neuronal low-noise electronics and signal processing
Laser-based automated neuronal placement systems
Neurobiology related
Learning and memory in neuronal aggregates.
Neurodegenerative diseases monitored by multielectrode neurodevices.
