TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION
Department of Biomedical Engineering
University of Alabama at Birmingham

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Alabama at
Birmingham announces a tenure-track faculty vacancy at the Assistant or
Associate Professor level. An excellent environment exists at UAB to
initiate a highly collaborative research program in computational
neuroscience capitalizing on functional magnetic resonance imaging data
from a unique 4.1 Tesla whole-body MR system. In addition, there are
collaborative interests in the UAB Neurobiology Research Center, the
Department of Psychology, the Department of Neurology, and an emerging
Cognitive Science Graduate Program. The Department of Biomedical
Engineering is also beginning a Whitaker Foundation Brain Imaging Training
and Research Grant in the fall of 1994 which will cross-train a small group
of selected Ph.D. students in both the neurosciences and also the physics
and mathematics of medical imaging.

Candidates are sought who have research interests in the area of
computational neuroscience with a major emphasis on issues of higher level
brain function in human subjects. Ideally, candidates would have formal
training in an engineering discipline, although other backgrounds will also
be considered. Candidates are particularly sought who have established
research programs so that this research complement to the Department of
Biomedical Engineering can be quickly developed.
