CORTICAL DYNAMICS IN JERUSALEM
June 11-15 1995
Interdisciplinary Center for Neural Computation,
Hebrew University of Jerusalem

The Center for Neural Computation of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will
hold an international symposium on experimental and theoretical aspects of
the dynamics of neuronal networks in the neocortex and its role in
information processing.

The symposium will cover the following topics:

1. What are the roles of the biophysics of single neuron, dendritic
processes, and synaptic integration in cortical dynamics and information
processing?

2. Do rapid synaptic modifications play an important role in cortical
dynamics?

3. What are the contributions of afferent (feedforward) processes
and recurrent (feedback) processes to neuronal responses in the cortex

4. What are the main temporal and spatial scales that characterize
cortical processing?

5. What are the cellular and network mechanisms underlying phenomena
such as oscillations, chaos, noise and synchrony, and what are their
functional roles?

6. What is the significance of precisely timed spike trains?

7. Is the notion of stationary brain states and transitions between them a
useful paradigm for computation in the cortex?
