I'd like to encourage those looking for doctoral programs in CNS to
look into the UCSF graduate program in Neuroscience. We are a medical
school with one of the strongest existing Neuroscience programs. The
Keck Center for Integrative Neuroscience, in which I am located, is an
outstanding and highly interactive center for systems neuroscience
research. We do not do neural nets research*; but those interested in
computational approaches to understanding the brain should check us
out. We are one of the five Sloan Centers for Theoretical
Neurobiology (the other four being Brandeis, Caltech, Salk, NYU).

*Note that UCSF is a health sciences campus only -- medical school and
related (dental, pharmacy, nursing, ...). No undergraduates. No
physics, computer science, math, or engineering departments (but these
are not so far away, at UC Berkeley and also at Stanford). But
outstanding biological research.
