I'd like to encourage those looking for doctoral programs in CNS to
look into the UCSF graduate program in Neuroscience...
yeah, right, Ken, we should make our voices heard. So, here we go:
_I_ would like to encourage future computational neuroscientists to
check out the Mind/Brain Institute at Johns Hopkins
University. Research in the Institute focuses on systems neuroscience
and strongly emphasizes interdisciplinary work and interactions
between experimentalists and modellers. Active collaborations exist
also with the departments of Cognitive Science, Psychology and
Electrical Engineering, all located in the same building as the
Mind/Brain Institute or next door to it. Numerous possibilities exist
for further collaborations with other groups in the School of
Engineering and in the School of Medicine.
Full-time faculty of the Mind/Brain Institute (all in the Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine) include:
C. Ed Connor, PhD (Visual Neurophysiology)
Barry Gordon, MD (Neurobiology of Language)
Stewart Hendry, PhD (Neuroanatomy)
Steve S. Hsiao, PhD (Somatosensory Neurophysiology)
Kenneth O. Johnson, PhD (Somatosensory Neurophysiology)
Ron Lesser, MD (Neurobiology of Language)
Guy McKhann, MD (Neurology)
Ernst Niebur, PhD (Computational Neuroscience)
Michael A. Steinmetz, PhD (Visual Neurophysiology)
Rudiger von der Heydt, PhD (Visual Neurophysiology)
in addition to Vernon B. Mountcastle, MD and Gian F. Poggio, MD, both
in residence in the Institute.
The Johns Hopkins Department of Neuroscience has one of the first and
highest-ranked graduate programs in the US. It is part of the School
of Medicine which is consistently ranked among the top 2 of the
country (US News and World Report). The Johns Hopkins Hospital has
just been ranked the best hospital in the country, for the sixth year
in a row (US News and World Report).
