Ph.D. student position (BAT IIa/2) available in the project:
"Information Processing in the Barrel Cortex: Functional and Morphological
Investigations into the Modular Organization of the Rat Somatosensory Cortex".

We are looking for a student with experience in electrophysiological techniques
(in particular patch-clamping) who is interested in structure/function
relationships in the cerebral cortex. Aim of this interdisciplinary project
is to investigate the contribution of small lamina-specific populations of
neurons and single cells in the different layers of the cerebral cortex by
functional mapping of synaptic connectivity using flash-photolysis of caged
neurotransmitters (e.g. caged glutamate, aspartate, GABA) in coronal and
thalamocortical slices. Quantitative morphological processing for the
distribution of transmitters and axons (Neurolucida) is used to simulate
models of small cortical networks. For further information please contact:
