Brain Imaging (fMRI and ERP) research assistant wanted:
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of Stanford University
seeks a research assistant to participate in all phases of a research project
designed to use event-related potential (ERP) and functional magnetic
resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques to study the neural correlates of auditory
hallucinations in schizophrenia. Employee will be hired by Stanford
University, but will work at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System under the
direction of Judith M. Ford and Vinod Menon. This is a full time position
which will require some evening and weekend hours on a regular basis.
Compensation is set by the institution, based on formal qualifications and
years of experience, and includes a salary of $26,000 - $28,000/yr as well as
health insurance, savings plans, limited tuition assistance etc.
Duties:
assembling assessment instruments, screening subjects, obtaining informed
consent, scheduling subjects for testing, and tracking progress of study;
acquiring and archiving fMRI and ERP data, and assisting in its analysis;
administering diagnostic interview, assessing symptoms and reviewing clinical
records
verifying data and entering pertinent information into database for
statistical analysis.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the job will have recently completed a degree in
psychology, human biology, clinical neuroscience or related area, will have
strong computer skills, will have had hands-on involvement in a research
project in a clinical setting, and will have a career interest in the
application of functional neuroimaging to study the pathophysiology of mental
disorder. We are looking for someone who has prior experience with at least
some of the above duties and/or shows evidence of organizational skills and
experience in implementing complex tasks; ability to work well with patients;
aptitude for rapidly learning to collect fMRI and EEG data; knowledge of Unix,
PC and Mac based systems; and ability to operate independently within the
context of a team effort, keeping to a tight schedule and following through
with attention to details.
