Call for participation for a workshop on olfactory coding at the NEURAL
INFORNMATION PROCESSING MEETING
Breckenridge, CO , Dec 4-5 1998

OLFACTORY CODING: MYTHS, MODELS AND DATA

http://www.wjh.harvard.edu/~linster/nips98.html

Organizers: Christiane Linster, Frank Grasso and Wayne Getz

Currently, two main models of olfactory coding are competing with each
other: (1) the selective receptor, labeled line model which has been
popularized by recent results from molecular biology, and (2), the
non-selective receptor, distributive coding model, supported by
data from electrophysiology and imaging in the olfactory bulb and
antennal lobe. In this workshop, we will discuss experimental evidence
and theoretical implications for each model
Theoreticians and experimentalists together will discuss the implications
for olfactory coding and for neural processing in the olfactory bulb
and cortex for each of the two predominant, and possibly, intermediate,
models.
Experimentalists and theoreticians interested in participating in the
workshop
Should email Christiane Linster at linster@berg.bu.edu. More information
