Announces Registration for
The Sixth Annual
DYNAMICAL NEUROSCIENCE
Satellite Symposium
"Beyond Neurons and Synchrony"
Friday and Saturday -- November 6-7, 1998 -- All day, both days
At the Twenty-Eighth Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience
Los Angeles Convention Center, Room 515-A, Los Angeles, California
This year the Dynamical Neuroscience Meeting is organized around two questions:
On Friday we will consider:
Is the concept of receptive fields still useful? Do neurons really have
receptive fields, and are simple stimuli adequate to understand neuronal
response properties?
and on Saturday:
Do synchronous spikes have any particular significance? What is the
evidence that the brain cares about synchronous spikes in particular?
The following experts have been invited to participate in the meeting:
Friday:
Yang Dan (U.C.Berkeley)
Jack Gallant (U.C. Berkeley)
Miguel Nicolelis (Duke U.)
Upinder Bhalla (Bangalore, India)
Charlie Gray (U.C. Davis)
David Field (Cornell U.)
Barbara Shipman (U. Texas, Arlington)
Saturday:
Bill Skaggs (University of Pittsburg)
Mike Shadlen (University of Washington, Seattle)
Gilles Laurent (California Institute of Technology)
Alan Gelperin (Lucent Technologies)
Malvin Teich (Boston U.)
John Miller (Montana State University)
The format of the meeting is intended to promote debate and discussion.
Each day starts with an overview of the issue at hand given by two of the
invited participants, and then a brief 'position summary' from the other
invited participants. A poster session and lunch are followed by smaller
discussion groups lead by each invited participant. The day ends with a
general debate and discussion session. The meeting banquet will be held
Friday night.
