One way to determine directionality of information flow is to observe
subsystems and ask who can predict whom. The response system always has
information from the driver, but not conversly in a unidirectionally
coupled system. When synchronized, however, a function is created
relating the susbsystems that allows prediction the other way (from driver
to response system) despite unidirectional flow of information. This issue
has been dealt with rather extensively in the physics synchrony
literature, and a summary of these results can be found in Physical Review
E 54, 6708-6724 (1996).
