Neuroengineering Summer School “Massimo Grattarola” – 2026 Edition

📍 Location: Genoa (Italy)

📅 Dates: 8–10 June 2026

About the School

The Neuroengineering Summer School “Massimo Grattarola” is a leading international training course in neuroengineering. It brings together students, young researchers, and professionals from neuroscience, bioengineering, computation, and related fields to learn about multiscale approaches to neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. The school is named in honor of Prof. Massimo Grattarola, a pioneer in neuroengineering and bioelectronics.

Purpose & Focus

This edition, titled “Bridge the Gap: Multiscale Approaches in Neurodevelopmental Disorders”, explores how clinical data, experimental models, and computational methods can be integrated to better understand brain disorders and support personalized therapies.

The training focuses on questions such as:

  • How can discoveries in the lab be translated into effective patient‑specific treatments?
  • How do different biological models contribute to understanding pathological mechanisms?

Main Themes

The School’s sessions typically include:

  1. Clinical Foundations – diagnosis and unresolved problems in neurodevelopmental disorders.
  2. Patient‑Derived In Vitro Models – using human cell models to investigate disease mechanisms.
  3. In Vivo Models – validating findings in animal or whole‑organ systems.
  4. Digital Twins & Computational Models – building multiscale predictive models.
  5. Practical Hands‑On Activities – creating predictive simulations and neural network models.

Each session combines keynote lectures, expert talks, open discussions, and practical exercises.
